    • Who was Rachel VanAllen(1755)
I do not understand what is going on here. In a 10 November1797 UCLP #74, Samuel Wright Senior identified his wife as Rachel Vanallen, daughter of Jacob Vanallen a UEL, who was a Sergeant in Sir John Johnston's Corps Of the Royal Rangers of New York, and based in Montreal, Quebec, British North American Colonies. This Jacob Vanallen had been in the serice since the start of the American Revolution until the disbandenment in 1783. This was Certified by Allen Vaterson, a Justice of the Peace. The problems that we have with these UCLP's is that no birth dates are given, and the Father is identified only by his residence. Do we have two Jacob Vanallen UEL, who are Father and Son, who are both Sergeants in Sir John Johnston's Corps of the Royal Rangers of New York, and based in Montreal, Quebec? And, do they each have daughters named Rachel? It appears that way from this LDS Family Tree: L12H-C1L and MPVP-NHD. To compound that, the Rachel VanAllen married to Samuel Wright Senior had at least 6 children born between 1773 and 1786, who all filed UCLP's. to top that off, on 10 October 1797, Rachel Wright filed her own UCLP #14, stating only that she was the daughter of a Loyalist; and that is why her husband, Samuel Wright Senior, filed his Petition #74 a month later. Samuel Wright Senior was a Justice of the Peace, and a Magestrate in Elizabethtown, Leeds, Johnstown district; and as such, he must have figured that his wife's Petition would be rejected from lack of information.
