The able l awyer and preacher, Thomas Story, of Philadelphia, came in 1699 and 1 705 and held many 'open and comfortable meetings' in this and other part s of Virginia, viz, :. . . Skimeno, York County, and Chucatuck , where he met with 'his aged friend,' Elizabeth Webb, of Gloucestershire , England and John Copeland, who at his request showed him his mutiliate d right ear, being 'one of the first of those who had their ears cut b y the Presbyterians, for Independence, of New England.'"
