He also was a deputy Register for Whitingham, Paine and Wade on August 14, 1647. William and Mary bought land in Boston, Massachusetts on 26 July 1659. William and Mary lived in Connecticut about the same time as The Great Plague of London swept in 1664-65. William was made an ensign of the New Roxbury County, Massachusetts on July 13, 1687. William resided in Deerfield during King Phillip's War.

      William was a carpenter and millwright.
      William was a carpenter and millwright. The Old South Mills at Salem, MA were built by William and his Uncle Henry Bartholomew. He was at Hatfield 19 Sept 1677 at the time of the famous Indian raid. During this raid, his daughter Abigail was captured along with 13 others and taken captive by the Indians into Canada; She was later returned after a ransom was paid. He was at Deerfield, MA during King Philip's War and in 1678; he sold his houselot there in 1685. In 1679 he went to Branford, CT where he received a grant of 20 acres of land on condition that he would live there and build a grist mill. In 1781 he was given authority by the town to set up a saw mill there on the river and was later appointed surveyor of the town. In 1687 the town of Woodstock, CT was anxious to have him come and build a corn mill there; they granted him land there as well as to sons Isaac and William. He was one of the first selectmen of Woodstock.
