He married JANE NEWTON, daughter of Robert Newton. Benedict Alford came to America sometime before his marriage in Connecticut in 1683. His parents were Thomas Alford and Joan Hawkins of Somerset, England. From Benedict Alford, the name has been traced further back to John Alford born about 1479 in Somerset England. The name continued in Somerset, England with Alexander, who was born about 1509, and his son, William John, who was born about 1545. Benedict Alford's line continued in Connecticut with Josiah Alford, b. July 06, 1649, Windsor, Hartford, Connecticut, USA; d. May 10, 1722. He married Hannah Westover May 22, 1693 in Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut, USA. Josiah Alford and Hannah Westover's child was DOROTHY ALFORD, b. June 22, 1709, Simsbury, Hartford, Connecticut; d.
