!17. WILLIAM5 WEAVER, (William,4 (7) Clement,3 Clement,2 Clement1) born Sept. 19, 1695, in
East Greenwich, R. I. He died in North Kingstown shortly before July 9, 1759, when his widow was
appointed to administer his estate. (Probate Records of North Kingstown, Vol. 9, p. 80.) The latest
mention of him, while living is found in a lawsuit Feb., 1758. He married Alice (???) whose surname
and date of birth have not been found. She probably died in 1754, for she joined him in a land sale
Nov. 29, 1753, and he married, second, in Nov., 1755, Mary Fowler, a widow, who survived him and
was appointed to administer his estate as above.
He was a "yeoman" or farmer and also a licensed "innholder," at least a part of the time, for in the
doings of the Council of East Greenwich it is set forth that on June 30, 1733, it was "Resolved that
William Weaver of this town have libertie to sell Strong Drinke in the house wherein he now Dwells,
he keeping Good order upon each Training Day that Capt. (???) calls his Company to Train at said
Weaver's House in this present year 1733 betweene the hours of Eight of the Clock in the morning
and Twelve of the Clock at night and noe longer," on penalty of a fine. He was also licensed other
years. His house was the meeting place of the Town Council.
He seems to have lived continuously in East Greenwich up to 1754. He served as surveyor of
highways in 1727, waywarden 1728, overseer of highways 1729-1731, 1740, 1743, town sergeant
1733-1736, and member of the town council 1738-1744.
He did not remove to North Kingstown until 1754, sometime between April and August, doubtless
soon after the death of his wife Alice.
Jan. 12, 1716-17 his father, William Weaver, gave him a small lot which was part of his own farm and
was forty-one poles by sixty-two poles. It was bounded on a highway and on the giver's land. (East
Greenwich Land Evidence 2, 272.)
July 18, 1718, Clement Weaver of East Greenwich deeded to his "cousin," William Weaver, son of his
deceased brother William, all his right in lands owned by his said brother. (3, 59.)
July 18, 1718, whereas William Weaver of East Greenwich lately deceased intestate, whereby all his
lands descend to his eldest son, yet notwithstanding, said eldest son, William Weaver, for the better
support of his "honored mother" and to "enable her to bring up the rest of my brothers and sisters and
to put her in a better way to pay my Father's debts, as his administratrix, and that each of my
Brothers may have part of their Father's lands and my Sisters have something of a portion more than
the Law would allow them" deeds to his mother in lieu of her thirds, life tenure in some fifty-six acres
or so of the homestead and buildings thereon, bounded by a line extending from the middle of the
south line to the middle of the north line of said farm and is bounded

on a highway and on Benjamin Spencer. After her death this land shall return to my six brothers as
follows: To brother Benjamin eight acres, he to pay sister Alice œ4. To brother Harrison the house
father lived in and ten acres adjoining it, he to pay Alice œ5. To brother Thomas ten acres adjoining
Harrison's, to pay Alice œ5 six months after receiving the land. To brother Clement ten acres
adjoining Thomas', and he is to pay Alice œ5. To brother Joseph ten acres adjoining Clement, he to
pay Alice œ5. To brother John eight acres adjoining Joseph, he to pay Alice œ5. (3. 59.)
The law of primogeniture made him the sole heir to the estate of his father who died intestate. Instead
of keeping it he magnanimously shared it with his mother, brothers and sisters. Such an example of
generosity, filial love and brotherly kindness was rare in those days and not at all common in these
days when the application of the Golden Rule is being urged as never before.
Nov. 28, 1752, administration on the estate of Captain Richard Weaver, of East Greenwich,
deceased, was offered to his eldest brother William, who declined, requesting that their father,
William Weaver, be appointed, which was done.
He owned several tracts of land in East Greenwich, West Greenwich and North Kingstown.

nor offspring.
