"Israel was b. in 1680, and d. April 18, 1738. -Salmon Records. The inscription on his tombstone, at Mattituck, L. I., gives the date as the 17th, in the 58th year of his age. He m. Dec. 4, 1702, Joanna Swezy, (b. 1678). His will, dated June 23, 1737, and probated May 22, 1733, mentions his children by name, as follows: i. Isreal ii. Joanna iii. Keziah iv.Jemima v. Elizabeth vi. Experience N.Y. Wills, XIII, 295 His wife, Joanna, d. Feb'y 22, 1724-5, aged 38 years, according to the Salmon Records, but aged 47 years and three months, according to the inscription on her gravestone, at Mattituck, L.I., and this is probably correct. The second wife of Isreal was the widow of Mary Terry. I believe there was no issue of this marriage. He appears frequently in the records as "Capt." Israel Parshall, but I have never found any authority to show that he ever held a commission. In 1715 he appears as a private in "Ye Suffolk Regiment Anno Don 1715 Henry Smith Col. Joseph Wickham Lieut (Col) Will'm Smith Maj'r (Erroneously entered as a Regiment of Horse)" Rept. of State Historian, I., 508." Taken from the James Parshall book, pages 11-12. "James's eldest son, Israel, born in March, 1680, was one of the most prominent men of his day in Southold, and also one of the larges landowners of the township. This history, however, is more concerned with his second son, David..." Above taken from the Parshall book, 1915, page 158.
