      Notes
Joseph and his sons were signers of the "Articles of Association" of 1775, in which they pledge to resist the influence of the British Crown. Joseph's son Timothy was a soldier in the Revolution. Joseph's marriage to Elizabeth Parshall (daughter of Capt. Israel Parshall of Southold, grandson of Lion Gardiner) allowed Joseph to become one of the largest, and wealthiest landowners in the Long Island Colony.

In his will drawn January 2, 1770 (20 years before his death) he spells his name "Davies", and mentions:

      His wife Elizabeth
His three sons Joseph, Israel, Timothy (his land at Rocky Pt)
      His grandchild Elizabeth Robbins
Witnesses: Eliakim Davies and Simeon Davies (cousins?)
      Witness also by Henry Robbins

It should be noted that "The History of the Parshall Family" on page 18 additionally lists a daughter "Elizabeth" after Amy and before Jemimah.
