    • CAUTION: Elizabeth's maiden name is unknown.
ELIZABETH’S MAIDEN NAME IS UNKNOWN. There are NO RECORDS that provide the full name of Elizabeth, and any assertion that she was an Elizabeth Brown is speculation. Please do not attach possible parents of Elizabeth to this tree. (See Elizabeth Browne GJ75-YGK for discussion.) Her birth can only be estimated. Please don't add arbitrary vital information. See Lydia Ward G2QK-T9H

PLEASE NOTE: Netherlands, GenealogiesOnline Trees is no more a source than Ancestry.com Trees, and U.S and International Marriage Records, Family Data Collections, and Millennium Files are also not actual sources. “Great Migration” is extremely well researched and sourced. Some have speculated she was related to the Wards, and therefore, she was born a Browne.

      Speculating she was Elizabeth Browne
There is a published article in Memories under John Hawkes that explains why so many people insist Elizabeth was Elizabeth Browne. It must be noted that this is not a primary source; this is speculating that Elizabeth was William Browne and Lydia Ward's daughter. Lydia Ward's brother, Nathaniel Ward, lived in Hartford. This article then jumps to the conclusion that Elizabeth Browne married John Hawkes, stating it as if it was a proven fact. Why? Because she was a single young woman named Elizabeth with connections in Hartford during the time period, her uncle lived there. There is no marriage record. There is no evidence that Elizabeth Browne married John Hawkes. While it may be true, it cannot be verified. We only know that his wife was named Elizabeth.
