William m. (1) Eunice Freeman; (2) widow Mary Keeney; (3) widow Betsy Frost. He died about two weeks after his last marriage. It seems he came from White Creek, Washington Co., NY in 1792 in company with Samuel Sherman and Moses Blowers to Pompey, Ononadaga, probably building a log house before returning to his home. In 1793 he brought his family and his younger brothers, Peter, then 14, and Seth Paul, and probably also his brother, Stutson, Jr. who built a barn in 1793 for Gen. Samuel Sherwood. About 1825 he settled in Ashtabula County, Ohio, near his brother Stutson, Jr. who settled there about the same time. William's second wife, Mary died in 1833, and William and his three younger children returned to Pompey, Dutchess county, that fall (1833); two of the boys being taken into his son David Benson's family, and the youngest, a girl, Esther, went to her aunt Olive Barber. His son, Stutson K. Benson was appointed administrator in 1834 and stated that he was survived by his widow, Betsy, and named the surviving children: that Warren, Ira, and Esther were minors, as also the two minor children of Eunice, a half sister, deceased, but did not name them, saying they lived in the town of Scipio, Cayuga County. From this list of the living it is evident that Eunice, Evaline, Betsey, and Rebecca had died. Some of the older ones had remained in Ohio on the farm, William, Alonzo, Bathsheba and Henry. (BENSON Book, pg. 31)

Settled in Ashtabula Co. OH approx. 1825
Settled in Ashtabula Co. OH approx. 1825 with brother STUTSON, JR. Returned to Pompey NY in 1833 after death of second wife, MARY. Family in Cazenovia, NY previous to move to Ohio. WILLIAM BENSON listed as head of household in Dutchess Co., NY, 1790census 1792- Came to White Creek, Washington Co., NY with Samuel Sherman andMoses Blowers. 1793 brought family and brothers Peter and Seth Paul & perhaps Stutson, Jr.
