      Fred Harvey Benson, "The Benson Book", R929.2 B44 3b, Syacruse, NY, 1920. Call No. R929.2 B44 3b, FHL.
      He enlisted June 5, 1761 in Captain Isaac Torbush's Company of Provincial Troops (French and Indian War). He gave his age as 21, which would correspond with the records of birth at Rochester. Received over 100 acres in Vermont for his war service.

      BURIAL VARIANCE: Cemetery records reflect b. 1836, d. 1814. Dan Benson of Hurley, SD said he died 1 Jan 1815.

      Ellis Benson came to Orwell [Vermont] among the early settlers, locating in the southwest part of town, where he died at an advanced age. Ellis, Jr. came with his father, but removed to Benson Township a few years later where he died 31 December 1849. His son Justus Benson born in 1808 located in the southwest part of town in 1865.
