Notes - There were two John Smiths in Colonial America born about the same time.
One was born 13 Jul 1672 in Watertown, MA, the son of Daniel and Mary (Grant) Smith. He married Susanna ----- 24 Jun 1694 and had a number of children in Milton, MA, before moving to Stonington, CT. He and Susanna and most of his children died in Connecticut.
The other, a Captain, was born 9 Jan 1672 in Dover, NH, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Bickford) Smith and married Susannah Chesley on 17 Jun 1694 in Dover. They had a number of children in Dover and lived and died there.

Sources, places, and memories do not match
Sources show John Smith married to Susanna and having children in Newton, Middlesex, Massachusetts. Some sources show John and Susanna having children in Watertown, Middlesex, Massachusetts, which may be since the two towns are situated close to each other. Then there are sources and memories for John Smith and Susannah living in Connecticut. I believe there are at least two different people here that are all mixed together. If anyone has any wisdom to straighten this out I would love it!!

It is likely that John's wife, Susannah, *** Not Correct ***
It is likely that John's wife, Susannah, was from the Chesley family. (Ref.- The Mormon records support the Chesley connection) John and Susannah came to Preston, Conn. in 1709. (Ref.- A deed on record conveying land from William Dennison, and his wife Mary, of Storington on May 3 1709). In 1715 an earmark of the cattle of John Smith is registered. In 1718 more land is purchased from Wm. Dennison. (Ref. - Family of John Smith of Stonington from Wheeler's History of Stonington where a copy of his will is in the appendix)

Bond Watertown Genealogies Perhaps he was the John Smith who married Sarah Richard in Watertown on 8/16/1705. They had the following children: Abiezer b 3/27/1712 Lois b 10/6/1715 Silas b 1/16/1716/7 Ruth b 1/7/1719/20 Beulah b 1/14/1723/4 d next May Ephraim b 6/14/1725 If he is the John Smith who married Susanna Chesley (as shown in this data base), then he is not the same one who married Sarah because Susanna was still alive in 1705, and in fact lived until 1746.
