  !named as an executor of his father-in-l !named as an executor of his father-in-law's will, Brice Collins Beginning of search for David SCOTT !RELATIONSHIP: Initial name from marriage of son William Scott, Belmont Co., Ohio !CENSUS: - 1860, Franklin twp., Des Moines Co., Iowa, p. 150 (age 69), birth place Pennsylvania, $2800 real estate, $100 personal estate, Dodgeville P.O.; - 1850, Franklin twp., p. 379 (age 56), birth place Ohio, $2000 real estate - 1840, Iowa Territory, (age 50-60--although I think he was probably only 49 at this time), males 20-30 (2) [Andrew-24 and John-22], 15-20 (2) [David Jr.-17 and ?], 10-15 (1) [Samuel-14], 5-10 (1) [James-6]; females 40-50 (1) [Catherine], 15-20 (1) [Martha-16], 5-10 (1) [Mary]. NOTE: William and Sarah are married before 1840. But in 1840 we are missing one male 15-20. !RESIDENCE: First recorded in Belmont Co., Ohio, by 1820 as shows up on tax list there. He and Catherine seem to have sold all their land there by 2 Apr 1839. !STORY: Norma Gechter Griswold, 2113 J 50 Road, Austin, Colorado, gives the following information about possible leads to father--tradition has it that David's father was immigrant ancestor. He was born in Scotland, moved to Ireland, met and married his wife there, then emigrated from the port of Belfast. There is a book in SLC on Washington Co., Penn., genealogies that lists a William who died in Stockton, Calif., on January 29, 1852. That William had an ancestry that matched the tradition. Also, in the Denver Public Library in the genealogy section, Norma found a Scott (I suppose) who was descended from a man who matched the tradition whose mother was a daughter of the leader of the McGregor clan. Author of this book was Jacobus. ??? !DEATH DATE: Assumed from William Scott's family Bible in poss of Jeannie Gechter, 524 East Freemont Avenue, Fresno, California 93710. (Entry simply says, "David Scott died August 12, 1866.") No other David SCOTTs could be identified in the family who might qualify for this death date.
