Susannah Hale likely NOT wife of Richard Place
I have been doing research trying to find any source documentation supporting a Susannah Hale as wife of Richard Place and cannot find any. Deeds in York County ME 13-255 to 257 make it clear that Martha Leighton was Richard Place's wife in 1729, and had mothered his children Ebenezer and James, both born prior to Susannah Place, who was pretty clearly born around 1712 to 14. So if Martha was Richard's wife from the late 1600's until at least 1729, Susannah Hale would not have been able to be Susannah Place's mother. Also, Richard would have been about 25 years older than Susannah Hale, an age difference which, while not unheard of, would have been uncommon. It is possible that Richard outlived Martha and had a second wife after her, but this would have been well after Susannah's birth, and there are no records that I have seen establishing this.
The only reference online I could find between a Susannah Hale and Richard Place was a WikiTree page someone put up, but there are no sources listed for their relationship, and there are a number of other obvious errors on the page, so I do not have confidence in it. I reached out to the author of the page but got no response.
The death date of the Susannah Hale posted here - 21 February 1776 - corresponds with a Susannah Hale / Heald, originally from Concord, MA, who married Stephen Beecher and lived her life in West Haven, CT area. She was clearly not Richard's wife. This relationship is documented with original source material.
