      With much love and respect for you as a family member, and fellow geneology enthusiast. Michael Joseph Clark Is my great-great grandfather he is Buried in Clarkston, Utah His Headstone reads Michael Joseph Clark without the "E". He was buried by his loved ones who I am sure spelled his name the way that he spelled it through out his life. We cannot rewrite History or change the past, it is what it is. We cannot change the fact that Michael Joseph Clark spelled his last name without the "E" through out his life. Please feel free to spell your last name the way that you believe it should be spelled but for the sake of clarity in geneology and respect of Michael Joseph and his living and dying wish to be known as a Clark without the "E" and also out of respect for ALL of his descendents (which are many) his name should reflect how he personally spelled it through out his life. Thanks for your understanding and consideration.

      NAME: There is a discrepancy in the spe
      NAME: There is a discrepancy in the spelling of the CLARK surname. One line of the family spells it CLARKE. Check to see if and when the spelling changed. Which was the original? BAPTISM: On 3 Oct 1968, Michael Joseph Clark's baptism and temple ordinances were re-confirmed and ratified. Originally, Michael was taught the gospel and baptized by Erastus Snow and Parley P. Pratt. Michael Joseph Clark's parents originally came from Athboy, Ireland. He was born in Maine, but at the age of two the family moved to Providence, Rhodes Island. Also, at the age of two, Michael was sent back to Ireland for a time, under the care of ship's captain, because his father wanted his son to "stand on Irish soil." Perhaps there were grandparents there also. June 1862, Michael, his wife and son, immigrated to Utah with the LDS pioneers, traveling with Capt. Wooley's independent company. They settled first in Logan, Cache, Utah but in 1862 or 1863 they moved to Helena, Montana to work in the gold mines and then to Virginia City where they had a theatre. In 1874 they returned to Utah and settled in Clarkston, where they remained.
