      Notes from Hattie Young Sorenson: "Thomas Jones was a man of some wealth in South Wales. He loved and raised good horses. Thomas and Ruth Jones and their family sailed on the ship "Samuel Curling" on April 19, 1856. They arrived in Boston May 25, 1856. They traveled in cattle cars 1300 miles to Iowa and waited three weeks for handcarts to be made. They were advised to pool their resources with the other 704 people in their handcart company. They traveled in Capt. Edward Bunker's company under Capt. Dan Jones. They traveled 300 miles to Winter Quarters on the Missouri River. Then 1000 miles to Salt Lake City. They were allowed 100 pounds of flour and some bacon to each cart. They had some tea also, but that didn't last long. They were allowed 17 pounds of clothing. After traveling 1 1/2 months they were out of food and it was two days before the relief wagons came. The rule in the company was that if any were sick, they had to be pulled on your own cart. Aunt Margaret had broken her leg and had to be pulled all the way. They were offered big wages to stay in Iowa but they were bound for Zion. Some stayed, but we are told, they either lost the faith or died of cholera. Thomas and Ruth and their children arrived in Salt Lake City October 2, 1856."

      There are three daughters that appear on various family group sheets, Mary Jones 12 Oct 1833, Lettice Jones born 7 Mar 1836 and died 19 Jun 1920, and Anna Jones born 16 Feb 1842 and died 1845. These have not been verified.
