John Uriah Williams and two of his younger brothers, Ephriam Jesse Williams, and Hyrum James Williams all left Malad, Idaho as soon as they were able to get out on their own. They owned a Freighting and Wild Horse Business in Nicholia, Idaho. They also owned and operated a saloon and gambling place in Nicholia, Idaho.
John Uriah Williams was married to Margaret Pugh on 10 Nov 1879 at Malad. They were the parents of a daughter who died in infancy, and three sons.....John Benjamin Williams, Henry Pugh Williams and Calvin Pugh Williams who died an infant.
After a few years at Nicholia, John Uriah Williams and his brother Ephriam Jesse Williams decided to try their luck in the Copper Mines in Butte, Montana. Word got back to their parents in Malad that they had both been injured in a gunfight and both were seriously injured. Their mother, Jane Emma Merrifield-Williams drove her buggy all the way to Butte to bring them home to Malad. When she got there, John was so critically injured and suffering from small pox that he could not be moved...so she left him there in the care of a friend and she brought Eph as he was called home with her in the buggy. When they got back to Malad, his mother, operated on Eph and removed the bullets.
John Uriah Williams, eventually recovered from his woundsm and his illness and he returned to Malad where he had left his wife and sons. When he arrived in Malad, he found out that his wife Margaret Pugh-Williams had died from pneumonia while he was so sick and no one had told him of her death because of his condition.
John and his two sons, John Benjamin Willliams and Henry Pugh Williams lived in a small log house in the Williams block near his parents home in Malad.
John was known as Uncle John who raised honeybees.
John's youngest Son, Henry Pugh Williams left home when he was seventeen. A few years later he returned to Malad and spent that winter recuperating from a gunshot wound. One day he borrowed $80.00 from his older brother, John Benjamin and he went to town. There was a card game in town that lasted all night. Henry had marked the cards and he won BIG. He had 'Cleaned' the whole town. He left town fast and he was never seen again. This was a sad time for his father.
John died on 15 Aug 1928 at Malad at the age of 73 years. He was a widower for about 42 years.
