Notes - Rebecca was the daughter of Lientenant John and Mary (Benedict) Olmstead and was born in 1681 in Norwalk, Fairfield County,
Rebecca was the daughter of Lientenant John and Mary (Benedict) Olmstead and was born in 1681 in Norwalk, Fairfield County, Connecticut. Numerous members of the Olmstead clan had established farms throughout the Ridgefield-Wilton area in the late 1600s and it is assumed that Rebecca was born and raised in the Fairfield County area. It is recorded that Rebecca's sister Eunice married a Joseph St. John, so it is likely that the Olmsteads and the St. Johns were intermarried during this period. Although genealogists disagree as to the names and number of children they had, it appears that a majority feel that they were the parents of twelve children: Rebecca, Abigail (born 1703, died 1775), Samuel Jr, Joanna, Jane, Perigrina, Noah (my 4th g-grandfather), Daniel, Ebenezer, Abigail (born and died in 1720), Matthew, and Job. There is some question as to the parents naming two daughters "Abigail" and further research is needed. After establishing a farm near Ridgefield and living there for many years, sometime around 1740 they moved to Cortlandt Manor, West Chester (later named Westchester), New York. This is just across the state line a few miles from Connecticut near Norwalk. Both Rebecca and Samuel attended church in S. Salem, New York, again just a few miles from Ridgefield. Rebecca died on 21 July 1752 in Cortlandt Manor, Westchester, New York. Her gravesite has not be located, but family tradition places her interment at Pleasantside Cemetery (now called Lent Cemetery) next to her husband which is located in the town of Cortlandt Manor, New York.
