      Stephen Paine IV was born April 30, 1708
      Stephen Paine IV was born April 30, 1708; subsequently removed to N.Bolton, now Vernon, Conn., from Preston, where he became the owner oflarge estates, and devoted himself to farming. He married Deborah, dau.of Isaac Skinner [ sic - other sources indicate that she was actually thedaughter of Ebenezer Skinner and Sarah Lord] of Bolton and was widelyknown and esteemed during the whole of a a long and useful life as apublic-spirited and noble citizen, venerated for his piety andpatriotism. During the struggles of the colonies for independence, thoughtoo old to take part in the conflict, he encouraged his sons to do so, aduty which all, without exception, responded to with alacrity, seven sonsin all. He died at the home of his youngest son in Ellington, Conn., in1797, in the 91st year of his age.[^] Source: lacoe@microserve.net
