  Revolutionary War veteran, Tryon County Revolutionary War veteran, Tryon County Militia, First Regiment. A ranger under captain Winn during the Revolutionary War and on the roster of Oriskany heroes along with nephew, William Nelles. Simms refers to Fort Nellis "below St. Johnsville" and a story about a black man, probably a slave, who had made a small hickory cannon that Nellis refused to allow him to fire at the time of Johnson's invasion. "As early as 1783, Christian kept a tavern at Timmerman's Mill. In 1801, he added a stock of merchandise and kept a store." The entrance originally faced a road to the south between the river and the present route 5 but was changed to face north when the southern road was replaced by a railroad track. A member of the New York State Assembly representing Tryon County 1782-1783. Grist miller, local judge. Died of injuries (NFI).
