His father Captain Thomas Bull was an early settler at Cambridge having come in the ship "Hopewell" in 1635 but went with Reverend Thomas Hooker's party to Hartford. "Passenger Lists: 1600-1700": I found a "Passenger Lists: 1600-1700": I found a Richard Bull, age 17, Leaving England on the HMS Expectacion, 16 apr 1635 going to Providence Island or Rhode Island. I also found a Thomas Bull going to New England on the HMS Hopewell, 11 September 1635. There is 39 years difference so one of these Bulls could have been Joseph's grandfather. Will note Date the estate entered probate. Birth note There is quite some uncertainty about the date of Joseph Bull's birth. He was the executor for his father's will which traditionally indicates the oldest son. Brother Thomas Bull was born about 1646, so Joseph would have probably been born about 1644. Joseph was sworn as a freeman at Hartford in 1667. This usually requires an age of 16, thus, indicating a birth date before 1651. When his parents joined the 2nd Church, their children were listed with Joseph first, followed by Jonathan, David and Ruth. Indicating he was at least possibly older than brothers Jonathan and David. From these various facts it is assumed that Joseph must have been born at least by 1651 and perhaps several years earlier. Person note On 6 Oct. 1672 Joseph Bull and wife Sarah were received at 2nd Church from Cambridge, Mass, and their first child Sarah was baptized on that day. He was later a deacon of the church. In 1684 he was named as executor of his father's will. His father Thomas, after mentioning Joseph's brothers and sisters, left the rest of his estate to Joseph. Joseph Bull was a sea captain and trader. During the period when Sir. Edmond Andros was searching for Whalley and Goffe in Connecticut, it is reported that Joseph Bull hid Col. Goffe in his house. Whalley and Goffe later moved moved on to Hadley. Goffe later returned to Hartford where he is supposed to have lived either with Thomas Bull or son Jonathan. Joseph Bull's will was administered by relict Hannah and son Caleb. Invt. ¹890-04-08 as money. Taken 18 April, 1712, by Ciprian Nichols, Hez. Wyllys and Daniel Merrells. Grover, Enlarged and Revised, 1966-7, published by compiler; Benjamin Grover There seems to be another Benjamin Grover who was born in 1704 in Woburn, Middlesex, Massachusetts whose data and information was mixed up with Benjamin Grover born in 1722 in Killingly, Windham, CT. The former, born in Massachusetts was apparently married to a Mary Shailer and also to a Mary Milbury. With so many "Marys" it's definitely confusing. I changed the birthdate of the Benjamin Grover (KG8T-BVS) to 1722 and birthplace to Killingly, Windham, Connecticut because this Benjamin had the same temple dates as shown on my original family group sheet. But research needs to be done to add the other Benjamin Grover born in Massachusetts and to delete or connect Sources to right persons. Hope I didn't upset anyone; just trying to clean up what seemed to be a bit of a mess. Evidently the two Benjamins got combined somewhere along the line. There is probably room for discussion and more digging to make this more accurate with additional information. I'm certainly open to be persuaded otherwise with additional information. John and Fanny Griffin owned 82 acres of farm land in Flyford Flavel, England. Flyford Flavel is a small parish in the center of Wocestershire. Evidence that John Griffin is the son of Walter and Dorothy Baylis Griffin The 1851 census shows a widowed Theophania Barnes Griffin as the head of household in Flyford Flavell. Relationships to head of household are given on the census record, and in the same household as Theophania is her brother-in-law Thomas Griffin. The 1841 census also shows Thomas Griffin living in the household of John and Theophania Griffin. The Thomas Griffin who is living in the household is the right age to be the Thomas Baylis Griffin who died and was buried in Flyford Flavell in 1858. There are no other Thomas Griffins on the census records who could be this Thomas Bayliss Griffin. The parish birth records for Kyre Wyard show that Thomas Bayliss Griffin was baptized 30 November 1769 as the son of Walter and Dorothy Bayliss Griffin. The Kyre Wyard Parish records also list a baptismal record for William Griffin, Elizabeth Griffin, and John Griffin (as well as for Thomas Bayliss Griffin). The last will and testament of Walter Griffin was probated in 1799 and states that he is the father of William, Elizabeth, John, and Thomas Griffin. John Griffin also named one of his sons Walter. This evidence suggests that John Griffin was the son of Walter and Dorothy Bayliss Griffin. !CHRISTENING: Film #0435248 Gt. Kyre, W !CHRISTENING: Film #0435248 Gt.
