The General Court was petitioned in 1656 to make a town “eight miles distant” from Sudbury. The petition was granted and the Marlborough Plantation was formed. Marlborough was fromed as a town in 1660. After laying out their homesteads and holding a meeting to form necessary laws, the people of Marlborough built a place of general worship. Cotton Mather, the spiritual advisor declared that the place must be called a “Meeting House.” In March 1676, the “Meeting House” was attacked by Indians and burned to the ground. The first paper money in America was issued by the colony of Massachusetts (February 3, 1690). The currency was first used to pay soldiers fighting a war against Quebec, Canada. It looks like there are two inventories associated with his probate. Thomas arrived around 1666 in Accomack, VA, and was brought to Nanticoke 100 by Robert Collier. We think he finished his 'indenture' (in this case, paying his debt for being transported) and then began to acquire his own lands around 7-8 years later, as well as having gotten 50 acres from Robert Collier, who received land grants from transporting immigrants. 3633 | Maiden name confusion. Please review sources. --Descendants of James Irish, 1710-1940 : and allied families VII states that The Wight Genealogy incorrectly gave Jonathan Wight's wife as Elizabeth Hawes, further stating that in records from the original, the surname of Elizabeth is torn off and Hawes was added written in a different hand. From deeds and other recorded documents, it has been shown that Jonathan Wight married Elizabeth Fisher daughter of Thomas Fisher) on 9 Apr 1760. --The Edward Hawes heirs : Edward Hawes, ca. 1616-1687, of Dedham, Massachusetts states that Jane Wight (who married Michael Ware) was the daughter of Jonathan Wight and Elizabeth Fisher. (see sources) --Torrey's U.S., New England Marriages Prior to 1700, p 813, gives her name as Elizabeth [Fisher] / Haws (This is considered the seminal work on the subject.) --She was not named in father Thomas Fisher's will, but some other documented daughters who survived him were also not named by name. --The Wights : a record of Thomas Wight of Dedham and Medfield and of his descendants (see sources) gives Jonathan Wight's wife's name as Elizabeth Hawes. There are NO images of the original, only later transcriptions. --She was not named in father Thomas Fisher's will, but some other documented daughters who survived him were also not named by name. --There is no record of Elizabeth Fisher married to Joseph Haws/Hawes. His documented source are inconsistent with such a marriage. | Fisher, Elizabeth (I312684223894)
