368 | Another birthdate for Benjamin is given Another birthdate for Benjamin is given as Dec., 1648. And still anot her birthdate is given as Dec., 1649. Note added by a different user - not sure how to reply otherwise: - I see the Feb 23, 1644 was deleted by findagrave so perhaps that has been proven wrong? - I notice in the 1600's a few places they add a /# after a date like 1648/9 or 1662/3. At first I thought it was the month but sometimes they indicate the month and it isn't right. I thought perhaps the / meant the hour, but it's oddly always 1 more than the year. So perhaps it's just to indicate the information is effective during the year 1648 to 1649? (pure speculation from me on why they sometimes added the /) It could explain why modern people confuse the year. 1 _IFLAGS 0 This individual has the fol 1 _IFLAGS 0 This individual has the following other parents in the Ancestral File: John /BROCKETT/ (AFN:1LTV-TQ) and Mary /BLACKWELL/ (AFN:933K-8J) Ancestral File Number:<AFN> 1LTW-N1, P1B 1 _IFLAGS 0 Merged record G3C9-O2: birt 1 _IFLAGS 0 Merged record G3C9-O2: birthdate 1648, Conn. Thomas was a blacksmith and came to Guilford 1695, either at the request of the settlers or upon a private enterprise. He was given no grant of land and the records show he made no purchase until about 1725 when he established a home at Nut Plains. Where he lived in Guildford settlement is unknown, he may have lived on "Crooked Lane", State Street, near or with Stephen Bradley. The home he established has long since disappeared. He was a steady citizen but never prominent, a man amoung men, content to forge the iron for himself and neighbors who battled the wilderness and laid bare the forest for the plow.. Thomas d. Oct 19, 1729, age about 56 years. No special epitaph marks his passing. He was buried on the Guilford Green with the other early settlers and his grave marked by a simple finely carved sandstone monument, when it was determined to clear the Green of monuments and obliterate the cemetery, the gravestone of Thomas, with others were removed to the church.. The records show it was finally removed to the premises of George Griswold on Boston Street, where it has lain for perhaps a hundred years, His gravestone has recently been found but is almost illegible and well worn.
