3065 | Find a Grave and ancestry.com error Note that there are two grave attachments with wrong information or memorials. One Find A Grave has the words "Private" and incorrect birth location as Ireland (not England). The other Find A Grave with an ancestry.com identifier has the birth location as Ireland with the wrong set of parents. If anyone has the ability to correct these mistakes, please do so. He has been confused with a Mormon Battalion private, William J Robinson born 28 Feb 1828 in Ireland (LC35-LBH). William Robinson born 1816 in England has parents George and Margaret. William J Robinson (LC35-LBH) born in 1828 in Ireland has parents of William and Catherine. He was a private in the Mormon Battalion. NOTES ON 2 WILLIAM ROBINSONS. sometimes confused with one another. There are 2 William Robinsons that are getting mixed up with each other. 1) William Robinson (KWJ8-6XQ) was born in 1816 in England. He traveled with the Henry Bryand Mannign Jolley Company in 1852 with a wife and 3 children. He is documented as such in the Mormon Pioneer Overland Travel database. There is numerous sources on his Familysearch profile that document his 4 wifes and numerous children. This includes census records, marriage records, a biography by his daugher Zina. His tombstone shows birth and death years. An obituary published in the local newspaper at the time of his death gives exact birth and death dates. 2) William J Robinson (LC35-LBH) was born in 1828 in Ireland. He traveled with the Hancodk/Hunt/Pace/Lytle Company in 1847 (Mormon Battalion) without wife or children. He is documented as such in the Mormon Pioneer Overland Travel database. Nothing further is known/doucmented about this William Robinson in Familysearch as far as residence or relationships. Further research is needed. One of the William Robinson's died 27 April 1898 in Dover, Sampete, Utah. It is very well documented that this was the first William Robinson. BOTH WILLIAM's HAVE THIS AS THEIR DEATH DATE AT THIS TIME. I realize that both the sources attached to the second William Robinson (LDS membership records and Mormon Pioneer Overland Travel) list the 27 April 1898 as death date. I believe this to be an error in earlier research on the William Robinson where it seems he got mixed up with the older William... Jonathan is not the son of Samuel Webb and Abigail Slawson Currently, Jonathan is attached to Samuel Webb and Abigail Slawson as his parents. However, I do not believe that is correct. Here is why: (1) There are no sources attached that indicate they are his parents, (2) Jonathan is not listed in Samuels will as his documented surviving children are, AND Jonathan was still alive when Samuel died -- you can see the will source attached to Samuel's record, (3) Samuel and Abigail's other children all have documented birth records, and (4) Jonathan is not listed as their child in the well researched book "Wilcoxsin-Wilcox, Webb and Meigs Families." (I will attach a link to it in the SOURCES section. For these reasons, I am detaching Jonathan from Samuel and Abigail so that his correct parents may be found. I am aware that text attached to Jonathan's record on findagrave.com says he is the son of Samuel and Abigail, but there are no sources and frankly I have found numerous mistakes like that on findagrave. I found some sources that claimed he traveled on the Monarch of the Sea in 1864. I've combed through the passenger list several times and can't find him. Once this site has a functioning search function I imagine it could be helpful in finding his journey. Norwegian-American Historical Associati Norwegian-American Historical Association Norwegians in "Zion" Teach Themselves English by Helge Seljaas (Volume 26: Page 220) There was obviously considerable social pressure to learn English. "The native American stock were not free from unkindness due to ignorance." Young Americans were especially cruel to immigrants of their own age. They "were inclined to laugh at the foreign looks and behavior . . .and to mock the broken language." {17} Andrew Israelsen, who with his family left from northern Norway in 1864 at the age of eight, did not enjoy school at all the first winter in Hyrum, as he "was picked on by many of the boys because [he] was a long, lanky, white-headed immigrant." Quite naturally, young people among the immigrants shunned the language that was the source of ridicule. Andrew M.
