2807 | Birth Date It’s indicated “possible wrong birth date”. That’s for sure since the suggested north and death dates are 200 years apart. If the birth date is left as is, we will never find Benjamin’s Father, because the computer will never find close matches. Need to delete or enter a more reasonable est birth date. Daniel Collette grandson of Lucy Lavern Thompson. Early History of Joseph Lewis Thompson An early history of Joseph Lewis Thompson, son of Benjamin Thompson, states, "Joseph Lewis Thompson was born in Birmingham, Warwick, England, on February 8, 1815. He was the son of Benjamin Thomspon and Ann Lewis, the fifth child in a family of eight children. His brothers and sisters are Henry Peace, Eliza, Benjamin, Samuel, John, Mary Ann, and Susanna. Very little is known of the family or his [Joseph Lewis Thompson] brothers and sisters, however, the following is known. His father had two brothers. Their names were Samuel and John. One of them went to Australia and the other to New Zealand. His brother, Benjamin, died as a child." This list of siblings seems to be based on later research and not on Joseph Lewis Thompson's recollections. Susanna has been proven to be a child of a different Benjamin Thompson who was still living in the 1841 census and worked as a fish monger. Susanna's birth record lists her father's occupation as fish monger, and the 1841 census confirms that occupation. Mary Ann also appears to have been a daughter of this other Benjamin Thompson. Benjamin Thompson the fish monger was also married to a woman named Ann Linforth, but she appears just as Ann Thompson on the birth and census records. John also appears to have been the son of a different Benjamin Thompson. Henry Peace Thompson is likely a son of Benjamin Thompson and Ann Lewis because Henry Peace was a witness on their marriage record. Also, Sarah Ann Thompson (not given in the list of children above) is certainly a child of Benjamin and Ann Lewis Thompson since she was christened on the same day as Joseph Lewis Thompson, and the clerk used ditto marks between their entries. The information about Benjamin's brothers Samuel and John going to New Zealand and Australia seems more likely to have come from information dictated by Joseph Lewis Thompson himself. Information like that would have been more difficult for later researchers to create from vital records. Possible wrong Benjamin Thompson and DOB Grandma, Flo (Thompson) Godfrey left Pedigree Charts, and life sketches …. ,to Mom and they have some information that might help in or searches on the Thompson line. I will upload and add them to the correct person over the next month. The Pedigree Chart that looks the most helpful at this time reads as follows: Flo (Thompson) Godfrey KWCX-QR3 Walter Lewis Thompson KWCG-RCC Born : 2 Feb 1869 Where: Clarkston, Utah Married: 11 Jan 1893 Died: 5 Sep ,1946 Where: Clarkston, Utah Joseph Lewis Thompson KWJF-39R Born : 8 Feb 1816 Where: Birmingham Was. Married to : Mary Hodley Died: Where: Two Thompson Families Baptized Children on the same day Benjamin and Ann Thompson baptized two of their children (Joseph and Sarah Ann) on 27 September 1822. In the record, Joseph and Sarah are recorded in the bottom two lines of the page. The entries that appear just before Joseph and Sarah are also for a Thompson family. Joseph and Hannah (probably short for Susannah--this is likely Susannah Spinks) Thompson also baptized their two daughters (Elizabeth and Sarah) on that same day. Joseph's occupation was "candlestick maker," and other records for him specify that he was particularly a "brass candlestick maker." Joseph was also the father of Sarah Spinks, William, James, George, and Benjamin (besides Elizabeth and Sarah). Joseph Thompson is known to have married Susannah Spinks on 13 February 1809 in Handsworth, Warwickshire, England. Joseph Thompson appears in Family Tree at MVWW-XW6. Joseph Thompson lives on Bath Street and Benjamin Thompson lives on Price Street--the two roads are a 30 second walk away from each other. Is it possible that our Benjamin Thompson and this Joseph Thompson MVWW-XW6 are brothers? or is it just coincidence that these two Thompson families happened to baptize four children on the same day? Also, it hasn't been positively confirmed that the Eliza Thompson who was baptized in 1806 is certainly the daughter of Benjamin and Ann Thompson, but it is likely that she is. On the same day that Eliza was baptized, there was also a Mary, daughter of Joseph and Mary Thompson. The identity of this family has not yet been established. But again, it is possible that Joseph is related to Benjamin. This Joseph and Mary appear in Family Tree at KH93-6JT. Also, is it possible that these two Josephs are the same person? Is it possible that Joseph married Mary, and then in 1809 married Susannah? A look at the marriage record might suggest if Joseph was a widower or not? Keep this record 97CS-J8H the surviving record in any merges This record is extracted from the St. George Temple records on which William Henry Thompson recorded that he was baptized for his "Grandfather Thompson" who was born in England. Apparently William Henry Thompson did not know his grandfather's name. However, William Henry Thompson's father Joseph Lewis Thompson received a patriarchal blessing on 18 September 1874 in Clarkston, Cache, Utah. The introduction to the blessing reads, "Joseph Lewis Thomson son of Benjamin and Ann Thomson born Feby 8th 1815 Birmingham." Therefore, this is a clean record that only represents the father of Joseph Lewis Thompson. Please keep this one as the surviving record in any merges since it is a record whose original identity only represents Joseph Lewis Thompson's father. Gd. Father Thompson (his name not well known among descendants) Benjamin Thompson's proxy baptism was completed at the St. George, Utah, Temple on 1 May 1877. His name was entered into the temple records as "Gd. Father Thompson." This would suggest that Benjamin's descendants did not know Benjamin's given name. Joseph Lewis Thompson personally listed his father as Benjamin Thompson in his own patriarchal blessing, but Joseph Lewis Thompson died in 1875. Apparently as soon as two years after Joseph Lewis Thompson's death, Joseph's father's name had been lost to descendants, suggesting the Joseph Lewis Thompson did not leave many written records regarding his parentage. Benjamin Thompson Benjamin Thompson was married to Ann Lewis. Ann Arnott was married to Thomas Thompson per attached sourcesl Do not merge to any of these records without further documentation Benjamin Thompson has been carefully researched by many descendants. All that is known with certainty is that he was the father of Joseph Lewis Thompson (KWJF-39R) who was born in 1815, and that he was the father of Sarah Ann Thompson (LZ54-4H1) who was born in 1818. This is known because Joseph Lewis Thompson personally listed his parents as Benjamin Thompson and Ann Lewis on several membership records for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Joseph Lewis and Sarah Ann were both baptized at St. Philips in Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, on 27 September 1822, and ditto marks are listed between their baptismal records showing that they were both children of Benjamin and Ann Thompson. On that baptism record for Joseph and Sarah, the family residence is listed as Price Street, and Benjamin's occupation is given as "button turner." A bishop's transcript of the marriage record for Benjamin Thompson and Ann Lewis (LKVY-PLC) has been found, but the marriage record does not list ages, residences, or father's names. The transcript shows the marriage between Benjamin Thompson and Ann Lewis was solemnized at Saint Peter and Saint Paul Church in Aston, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, and Henry Peace and William Roberts are the witnesses. Because Henry Peace is a witness on that marriage record, researchers have supposed that Henry Peace Thompson (K2QS-HKZ) who was baptized at St. Phillips on 10 June 1802 is also likely a son of this Benjamin and Ann Lewis. In light of some early family correspondence (see https://www.familysearch.org/photos/artifacts/173092374?cid=mem_copy) researchers have suggested that Benjamin Thompson (2WSW-8JG) is also a son of Benjamin and Ann Lewis Thompson. There is a burial record dated 15 October 1809 in Birmingham for "Benjamin son of Benjamin and Ann Tompson." This is thought to possible be the child mentioned in the history: "Benjamin died as a child." Also, researchers have thought that the Samuel Thompson (KNZH-Y74) baptized 7 June 1811 in St. Philips at Birmingham, Warwickshire, England, may also be a son of Benjamin and Ann Lewis Thompson. There is also an Eliza Thompson (LVGV-8MJ) who was baptized 9 April 1806 in St. Philips, and researchers have linked her as a child of Benjamin and Ann Lewis Thompson as well. But there seems to be no further evidence to support these conclusions. Here are the issues that surround further identification of Benjamin Thompson. A researcher in England was hired to search for Benjamin's birth record and parents. The letter written by the researchers can be found here: https://www.familysearch.org/photos/artifacts/81929875?p=52845808&returnLabel=Benjamin%20Thompson%20(97CS-J8H)&returnUrl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.familysearch.org%2Ftree%2Fperson%2Fmemories%2F97CS-J8H The problem is that the Benjamin Thompson who was the file maker and coach spring forger of Birmingham may be a different Benjamin Thompson. Benjamin Thompson (L12V-M52) married Ann Linforth (L12J-BKK) on 23 May 1814. The census records show they had a daughter named Mary Ann Thompson (L12J-R63) born about 1819. The census records and the marriage records for his children show that Benjamin was a fruiter and fishmonger. However, the only birth record that has been found for Mary Ann Thompson (L1LJ-5MQ) shows her father as a coach spring forger living on Moland Street (note that Joseph born 1815 and Sarah born 1818 were baptized in 1822 and the family lived on Price Street). So, it seems that the Benjamin Thompson who was a coach spring forger must be a different Benjamin Thompson (maybe he's the Benjamin Thompson who was a fruiter and fish monger, but that seems like a large jump in occupations). The professional researcher also searched a total of 55 parishes covering 1760 to 1870 for a possible christening of Benjamin Thompson. In the required period over this wide area, only one Benjamin Thompson christening was found. That was for Benjamin Thompson (L15K-DVZ) baptized 31 October 1776 in St. Martin's Birmingham, son of Joseph and Sarah Thompson. The researcher then created a long list of children born to a Joseph and Sarah Thompson in Birmingham, however, this list of children is likely inaccurate because there were two Joseph and Sarah couples. One is Joseph Thompson (GVX4-KBB) and Sarah Devey (GVX4-K14) who were married in 1766, and the other is Joseph Tompson (MVVP-NP2) and Sarah (MVVP-N53) who were having children as early as 1757. With two couples of the same name, it is difficult to assign children born after the 1766 marriage to either couple. The next problem is that even though multiple baptism records for Benjamins born from 1760 to 1780 do not exist, there are multiple Benjamins who die claiming they were born in that time frame. L15H-GG6 was buried on 9 October 1831 at the age of 54, and L15H-5ZY was buried 2 October 1832 at the age of 56. We need to consider that both these Benjamins were born in the area and should have baptismal records available somewhere. There is also a Benjamin Thompson (L15C-77G who died in 1850, but his age at death is not determined. Also, if Joseph Lewis Thompson is not actually a brother of Henry Peace Thompson, then there are other younger Benjamins who could be possible fathers. L15C-4HT was born in 1793 to yet another Benjamin Thompson LZXB-1QW. Also, Benjamin Thompson MJQJ-FXQ was baptized 18 September 1781 at Mancetter, Warwickshire, England, which is near enough to Birmingham to be considered. The intended lesson of this note, however, is that no changes should be made to this record until further documentation can be found to clarify which Benjamin Thompson should be included here. There is a Benjamin Thompson born about 1776 in Birmingham There is a Benjamin Thompson who was christened on 31 October 1776 in St. Martin, Birmingham, Warwickshire, England. He is the son of a Joseph and Sarah Thompson. The trouble is that there is a Joseph and Sarah Devey Thompson who were married in Birmingham in 1766, and there is another Joseph and Sarah Thompson who were already married and having children in Birmingham prior to 1766. Even if we determine that our ancestral Benjamin is the child who was christened in 1766, we still are unable to uniquely identify his parents since there are two Josephs and Sarahs. (See L15K-DVZ) Please read ALL NOTES before working with this record! USE CAUTION! A large amount of research has already been done on this family, and this record has been carefully reviewed for accuracy. The information is too large to place in an alert note (which is limited to 3000 characters), so the important information has been placed in several notes. Please read all notes. Until further research is done, the only factual information on this records is that 97CS-J8H represents Benjamin Thompson who married Ann Lewis. His birth date and location are unknown, and the only children who can be documented with certainty are Joseph Lewis Thompson and Sarah Ann Thompson. Be particularly careful about merging. This record has been incorrectly merged in the past, and Support had to intervene to clean the underlying data. Do not merge without further documentation to support your reason statements. | Thompson, Gd Father Benjamin (I312684222151)

John and Fanny Griffin owned 82 acres of farm land in Flyford Flavel. Flyford Flavel is a small parish in the center of Worcestershire, England. William married Mary Pitts, who lived in Inkberrow, just a few miles from his home. She was also a convert to the L.D.S. Church. After their marriage they moved to a small farming community two miles from Flyford Flavel, called Naunton Beauchamp, where William worked as a farm laborer. Here seven children were born to them. The family lived there at Naunton Beauchamp as members of the L.D.S. Church from about 1840 until 1866. Theophenia and John came to America in about 1861. William Jr. came two years later and the rest of the family came about 1866. In 1866 William Griffin and his wife, Mary, and family members Caroline, Walter and Thomas left England for the trip to Zion. (The other children had all come over in years before). On April 30, 1866 they sailed from Liverpool, England on the ship "John Bright". There were about 747 saints on board under the direction of C. M. Gillet. The company landed at Castle Garden in the New York harbor on June 6. They traveled by way of New Haven, Connecticut; Montreal, Canada; Detroit, Michigan; Chicago and Quincy, Illinois; and St. Joseph Missouri by cars, and then by steamboat up the Missouri River to Council Bluffs, Iowa. Here they joined the L.D.S. emigrating company for the trip across the plains. Upon arriving in Utah, they made their home in Clarkston, a small town near the northern border of Utah (Cache county). William Griffin married Eliza Penelope Thompson Griffiths, a widow, on May 19, 1873. This was a plural marriage. Her first husband, William Coucher, had died and left her a widow with three small children. !BIRTH: Clarkston Ward record shows birt !BIRTH: Clarkston Ward record shows birtdate of 29 Sep 1814 CFI Batch C0 41211 special sheet 0009 shows birthdate of 4 Oct 1814 Headstone says birth is: 15 Sep 1816 TO DO: Check Flyford Flavell Parish Records for birth of another William Griffin 15 Sep 1816, or 4 Oct 1814, or 29 April 1814 !BAPTISM: Rebaptized 1 Aug 1875 !NOTE: ARCHIVE RECORD: Proxy baptism performed 12 Mar 1949, LG. Hannah/Clark 15 Sep 1748 Hannah/Clark 15 Sep 1748 The Puritans were a group of English Protestants in the 16th and 17th centuries The Puritans were a group of English Protestants in the 16th and 17th centuries who sought to rid the Church of England of Roman Catholic practices, believing that the Church of England had not been fully reformed and should become more Protestant 1. They were dissatisfied with the limited extent of the English Reformation and with the Church of England’s toleration of certain practices associated with the Roman Catholic Church 1. Puritans formed and identified with various religious groups advocating greater purity of worship and doctrine, as well as personal and corporate piety 1. They adopted a covenant theology, and in that sense, they were Calvinists (as were many of their earlier opponents) 1. In church polity, some advocated separation from all other established Christian denominations in favor of autonomous gathered churches 1. These Separatist and Independent strands of Puritanism became prominent in the 1640s, when the supporters of a presbyterian polity in the Westminster Assembly were unable to forge a new English national church 1. By the late 1630s, Puritans were in alliance with the growing commercial world, with the parliamentary opposition to the royal prerogative, and with the Scottish Presbyterians with whom they had much in common 1. Consequently, they became a major political force in England and came to power as a result of the First English Civil War (1642–1646) 1. 1: Wikipedia. 1 en.wikipedia.org 2 worldhistory.org 3 christianity.com ANCESTRAL REGISTER of HALSTED WATKINS HU ANCESTRAL REGISTER of HALSTED WATKINS HULL-Compiled by Algot G. He married, November 18, 1686, Sarah Hosford, born the same day as her husband, dau. of John and Phillary (Thrall) Hosford. Although they spent most of their lives in Windsor they may have resided later in Hebron where Joseph had a large tract of land and where some of his children and the family of his brother Timothy lived. Through his son Abel Phelps, Joseph is one part of the Triple Descent section of the line of Timothy and Mary (Griswold) Phelps. His will, dated early in October of 1716, is in the Hartford probate records (vol. 1x) as of Joseph Phelps, Sr. of Windsor. His wife, who died September 17, 1757, at 89, was to execute his will. The inventory and guardian paper give the approximat age of the children and their guardians which do not agree with the births in the church record. 2847 | Book entry BOOK ENTRY It appears John Benson sold his interest in his father's estate in Hull to his brother, Joseph when his father died in 1678. John moved with his wife Elizabeth Marsh and his family of six to the new settlement of Rochester, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, though he was not one of the original grantees. Many of these grantees never became actual settlers, though their children and relatives frequently took up some part of it and moved into the new territory. John Benson, who was known as John Benson Jr. in Hull is spoken of as John Benson, Sr. in Rochester to distinguish him from his son John. He is mentioned on page three of the frist volume of Rochester records in 1680, and is frequently recorded thereafter in land transfers.(Vital Records, Rochester) He seems to be quite a prominent citizen of the town as he is mentioned often in the town records. He bought land in Plypton, as shown by Phymouth County deeds on September 7, 1700; he transferred part of his Rochester lands in 1708 and 1709/10 to his son John, and is mentioned as John Benson, Sr. of Middleboro. This transfer was probably the residue of his eate, showing that his homestead lands were in that part of Rochester that was set off to Middleboro. His sons, Issac, Jacob, and Benjamin and daughter Hannah (Hunt) lived in Plympton before moving to the adjoining state of Rhode Island, Gloucester County. He was now about 75 years of age. He died March 10, 1711, leaving no will. My Linage is Relationship John Benson Jr. MY 1ST COUSIN TWELVE TIMES REMOVED | Benson, John II (I312684222964)
